Educational Philosophy Statement
Teaching for me is more than just a career, it is a passion. Being able to give students an environment where they are able to feel safe while gaining a love for learning and knowledge is something I will always do. Watching a student have that moment where something they have struggled with finally makes complete sense to them is one of the greatest feelings I have ever felt. Being able to give students a safe, welcoming environment where they are able to be individuals with creative minds who solve the worlds problems is something that I have always strived to do and now I get too.
Teaching is a balance between integrating new methods and traditional classroom teachings. I am incorporating technology into my classroom by using games as study methods and exit tickets like Kahoot’s and Jeopardy. I have other types of technologies available to assist students of all abilities to succeed in my classroom such as microphones for dictation writing. I am integrating classical methods of teaching into my classroom by giving structured guidance and instruction to guide the students through project-based learning. I am giving the students the scaffolding they need to analyze texts, decipher information from reputable sources and are able to critically think and solve problems.
I strive to give students of all abilities and backgrounds a safe, welcoming environment where they are able to be themselves and feel safe, seen and heard. No matter where a student comes from or what they can do, they can and will succeed in my classroom. I am able to adapt lessons to make content easier to learn, including writing extra notes, creating clearer examples and giving more detailed instructions, to be able to ensure each student succeeds in my classroom. I give students many opportunities to interact with their peers through peer-based learning to allow students more social interaction and a place to build a better relationship with those around them. I will always welcome students of any background and ability in my classroom because I am certain they will always succeed.
