How to Obtain and Maintain a New Hampshire Special Educator Certification
Special Educators are re-certified every 3 years. In order to apply for re-certification, applicants must have completed the following:
Previous Beginning Educator License (BEL) or Experienced Educator License (EEL) held for 3 years.
You are eligible to apply for recertification after January 1st of your recertification year. (Eg. Your certification expires in June 2027, you may apply as early as January 1, 2027)
75 continuing education hours as follows:
45 staff development hours (can be general)
30 content-specific hours for each endorsement area
Log into your NHDOE account
Enter your professional development under the continuing education credit section. It is recommended that you keep a log of PD with the date, hours, credits (if applicable), and brief description of the PD event so that you can accurately enter them in the EIS system.
Ensure that you are linking the credits to the appropriate area:
30 CEUs Special Educator Endorsement
45 CEUs NH Teacher Staff Development Hours
Ensure that your continuing education credits for each area are related to your professional learning goals.
After all steps are completed and you have connected with your SDM you may apply to renew your license.
Click “submit” and make the appropriate payment to the NH DOE.
After clicking “submit,’ it is important to take time to enter your continuing education goals for the next 3-year cycle. These goals should be drafted and approved by your SDM before engaging in this process, as the screen will time out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
After entering your three goals, click “submit,” verify your profile information, and respond to the code of conduct/ethics attestation.
