Held on Thursday, 28 March 2025 | Music Studio, PESTA, Academy of Singapore Teachers
The Singapore Physical Education Association (SPEA) convened its 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28 March 2025 with the committee members and members-at-large.
The President's address began with a recap of notable events and collaborations over the past year:
SPEA's participation in the 7th Chinese Physical Education Alliance Conference (22–24 May 2024),
The Super PE App Workshop (12 July 2024), and
A research sharing by A/P Koh Koon Teck on ICT-based interventions in PE teaching and learning (13 November 2024).
A minute of silence was observed to honour the late Mr Harry Tan, a respected life member, whose contributions left a lasting legacy within the PE community. Members stood in silence to reflect and honour his dedication and service to SPEA and the PE fraternity.
This year, SPEA celebrate its 50th year of service to the Physical Education fraternity. As part of this commemoration:
A special edition of the SPEA newsletter - the SPEA50 Jubilee Edition - will be released, organised around the themes of Past, Present, and Possibilities. The edition will feature reflective pieces, professional insights, and perspectives on the future of PE in Singapore.
The SPEA 50th Anniversary Dinner will be held on 19 September 2025 at Summer Garden Restaurant, Mount Faber SAFRA. The event will serve as both a celebration of SPEA's legacy and a gathering of friends and colleagues across generations of PE practitioners.
The dinner will also feature the presentation of the Outstanding PE Teacher Award (OPETA), Outstanding Teacher-Coach Award (OTCA), and the newly launched Outstanding SPED PE Teacher Award (OSPETA)—affirming SPEA's commitment to recognising excellence across diverse educational settings.
To allow SPEA to deliver valuable and relevant content to members and followers, it has started using data analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of its key outreach platforms, particularly the association's online newsletter. We are pleased to note that we have averaged about 30 views per day, and our international readership has gone beyond Singapore.
From January 2025 to March 2025 alone, the SPEA website recorded:
2,796 page views (30 views per day),
1,300 new visitors, and
International readership spanning Singapore, the US, China, and the Philippines.
Such data-driven insights guide valued content and outreach strategies for PE and sports educators. It also reinforces SPEA's presence locally and globally in the broader PE landscape. We encourage members to leverage this platform to share promising and good practices in PE.

Election of two Honorary Auditors: Mr Kelvin Poon and Mr Ong Bok Liong.
The President concluded by acknowledging the contributions of the Management Committee, subcommittees, and co-opted members and their collective efforts in strengthening the Association's work.
As SPEA celebrates 50 years of advancing Physical Education in Singapore, members are encouraged to contribute ideas, stories, and time to the SPEA50 initiatives. The Association remains committed to raising the standards of PE professionalism while fostering a collegial and forward-thinking community.
