The company raised its first funding round to establish operations in San Francisco following its founding by Connor Zwick and Andrew Hsu. The specific amount for this round has not been disclosed.

Led by the OpenAI Startup Fund, this round established a partnership with OpenAI, giving Speak advanced access to new AI systems and supporting the development of its conversational AI tutor. 

This funding doubled the company's valuation in less than a year and supported its international expansion into over 20 countries.

This round of investment doubled Speak's valuation again, now to $500 million. The capital was designated for research and development, specifically focusing on voice-to-voice interfaces. 

This $78 million investment brought Speak to a 1 billion valuation, achieving unicorn status. This milestone funded the launch of "Speak for Business" and further global expansion.
