Speak offers two products: Speak and Speak for business.
Infrastructure
For individual learners, Speak provides a large library of content built on their proprietary "Speak Method" (Learn → Practice → Apply). This curriculum utilizes functional language building blocks called "phrase patterns," rather than rote vocabulary, delivered through interactive video lessons with real presenters to build initial understanding.
This content is powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 and specialized Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR). Additionally, Speak's ASR is fine-tuned on thousands of hours of accented speech, achieving a 60% reduction in word error rates for non-native speakers. This allows the app to provide a low-pressure, 24/7 conversational environment where users can engage in unscripted roleplays and receive instant feedback on their pronunciation and grammar.
Speak's reliance on GPT-4 creates platform dependency, a possible issue in the future that prospective investors may want to be wary of. In writing this report, I reached out to Connor Zwick via X.com for his perspective on this situation. He has not responded (yet).
Enterprise
Speak for Business functions as a scalable infrastructure solution for workforce language development. This enterprise component of their product provides a platform that organizations, from small businesses to multinational corporations, can use to enhance employee communication skills.
This corporate offering is supported by specialized services, including dedicated B2B sales operations and content marketing teams to facilitate smooth institutional onboarding and alignment with specific professional goals.
