The state guidelines provide for one of the audience-required-speeches to be presented to an online audience. The Harper College Communication Department, reserves the right to use that exception in cases of illness only. For example, if a student has Covid, and cannot ethically gather an audience.
With permission from your instructor, you may record no more than one speech online in the case of illness. A doctor's note or confirmation from the Office of Access and Disability will be required. Illness must be documented and confirmed.
Gather your audience in a zoom call/meeting. Make sure that we can see all six members of your audience. Google Meets or other software is also acceptable.
You should be the speaker in the center as shown above (blue circle).
Lighting, sound, and setting are very important. See THIS page. While you may be at home, you should still set up a professional envirnment the best you can. Students must perform in an appropriate environment that is free of visual and auditory distractions.
Record the entire zoom meeting. We should see you as the speaker AND all six audience members on the screen.
You will then upload the video to go react as pictured above (for grading). To be clear, the video must include the speaker as well as all six audience members.
If you are already part of a group planning to meet, the group could be in one box with you in the other. Like the 2 people in one box (below) there can me as many as 6 people in a single audience box.
All audience members must be at least 16 years old.
All audience members should be briefed by the speaker prior to recording regarding the information on this page.
