Advances in Space Robotics and Back to Earth

Full-day Workshop on 2021 IEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems

01 October 2021 (Online)

UPDATE 27/09/21

Dear Speakers, Poster Authors and Participants,

Our workshop will take place on the 1st of October.

We will start our online program at 14:00 (Prague Time) with the talks of our invited speakers. Since we have only limited time on the gCON platform provided by the IROS organising committee, we decided to continue the online meeting in Zoom. You can find the link for the Zoom meeting below.

About the Workshop

In recent years space robotics has flourished with novel approaches, challenging applications and plans for commercial exploitation, both on orbital and planetary environments. Modern robotics can support the astronauts by their routine tasks and significantly reduce the risks caused by the hostile environment. In turn, addressing the harsh requirements of space robotics (in terms of materials, autonomy, human-robot interaction and temporal delay) demands important developments which can significantly advance robotics technology, and enable new applications back on the Earth.

This workshop brings together a community of roboticists, space explorers, human factors experts and entrepreneurs to discuss current technology trends and to face new challenges in the field. The objectives are to highlight the latest technological advances to support space operations, discover opportunities and means for the integration of the human operator, and provide new ideas for future space robotics systems. Furthermore, the workshop aims to identify unanswered questions that will help to bridge gaps in our understanding of the basics of space teleoperation, human-robot interaction, and health management.
