Privacy policy

Ruslan Burnashev built and operates the Soz mobile application (“Soz”, the “App”, or the “Service”). Soz provides free basic functionality and premium content and services available through purchases or subscription plans.
This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use Soz, how it is used, when it may be shared with service providers, how long it is retained, and what choices you have regarding your information.
By using Soz, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, consent will be requested separately.
Information collected
Depending on how you use Soz, the following categories of information may be collected and processed.
Account and authentication information
You can use certain features of Soz without creating an account. If you choose to sign in using Google or Apple, Soz may receive and store:
• The authentication provider you used;
• A unique account identifier provided by Google or Apple;
• Your name, if provided by the authentication provider;
• Your email address, which may be an Apple private relay email address;
• Your Soz account identifier;
• Account creation and last activity dates;
• Authentication session information.
Soz does not receive or store your Google or Apple password. Authentication tokens are used to verify your identity. Soz stores a cryptographic hash of the active session token on its servers.
Profile and learning information
Soz may process information that you provide or generate while using the App, including:
• Profile name and selected gender;
• Interface and learning-language preferences;
• Learning progress, completed lessons and exercises;
• Answers and answer results;
• Known and saved words and translations;
• Grammar and dialog levels;
• Experience points, consumable points and activity streaks;
• Notification, appearance, sound and other application settings;
• Subscription, trial and premium-content status.
This information is used to provide and personalize the learning experience and to restore your progress across supported devices.
Cloud backups
If you sign in and use cloud synchronization, Soz may create and upload a compressed copy of the App’s local user database to cloud storage operated through Microsoft Azure.
A cloud backup may include your profile, settings, learning progress, answers, known words, translations, activity history and subscription-related status.
Soz may maintain a rotating set of up to five backup snapshots, such as the current, previous, weekly, monthly and pre-restore backups. Older snapshots may be replaced or deleted when new backups are created.
Cloud backups are linked to your Soz account so that they can only be restored for the corresponding account. Data is protected during transmission and by the security measures provided by the cloud storage provider. Cloud backups are not end-to-end encrypted with a key known only to you.
Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Soz does not receive or store your complete payment card or bank account details.
Soz may receive or store information necessary to provide premium features, including:
• Product or subscription status;
• Trial status;
• Whether a premium product was previously purchased;
• Purchase or subscription entitlement;
• Product price and currency;
• Purchase, subscription and trial events.
The applicable app store is responsible for processing payments according to its own terms and privacy policy.
Speech recognition and microphone data
If you choose to use speech-recognition features, Soz requests access to your device’s microphone. Audio captured for speech recognition is transmitted to Microsoft Azure Speech services for processing.
Soz does not intentionally store microphone recordings in your Soz account or cloud backup. Microsoft may process technical and audio information according to its own terms and privacy policy. Recognized text and the resulting exercise progress may be stored as part of your learning data.
You can refuse or revoke microphone permission through your device settings. Speech-recognition features will not work without microphone access.
Translation and answer analysis data
When you request a translation or automated answer analysis, the relevant text, answer, sentence or context may be sent to Google translation services or OpenAI services, depending on the feature and selected translation engine.
Translation and analysis results may be cached temporarily to improve performance and may be saved locally as part of your learning progress.
Analytics, diagnostics and advertising measurement
Soz uses third-party analytics and diagnostic services to understand how the App is used, detect errors, measure performance and improve the Service.
The information processed by these services may include:
• App installation or instance identifiers;
• Advertising identifiers, where available and permitted;
• IP address;
• Device model and device characteristics;
• Operating-system name and version;
• App version and configuration;
• Language, country or approximate region;
• Feature interactions and application events;
• Subscription, purchase and trial events;
• Dates and times of activity;
• Diagnostic messages, error information, stack traces and crash reports;
• Network and performance information.
Soz may use Google Firebase Analytics and Meta App Events for analytics, attribution and advertising-performance measurement. Older or currently installed versions of Soz may also contain Microsoft App Center analytics and crash-diagnostic components.
Your device and operating system may provide controls for limiting advertising identifiers, analytics or tracking. Where applicable law or platform rules require permission, Soz will request it through the relevant device or application controls.
Server log data
When the App communicates with Soz servers, technical log information may be processed automatically. This may include your IP address, request date and time, requested operation, response status, server errors and security-related information.
Server logs are used to operate the Service, troubleshoot errors, maintain security and prevent abuse.
How information is used
Information is used for the following purposes:
• To authenticate users and manage Soz accounts;
• To provide, maintain and improve the App;
• To synchronize and restore learning progress;
• To personalize settings and learning content;
• To provide speech recognition, translation and answer analysis;
• To provide premium features and verify subscription status;
• To diagnose errors and crashes;
• To measure application and advertising performance;
• To protect accounts and prevent fraud, abuse or unauthorized access;
• To respond to support, privacy and account-deletion requests;
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms.
Legal bases for processing
Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, information may be processed on one or more of the following grounds:
• Performance of a contract or provision of the Service you requested;
• Your consent, including permissions granted through your device;
• Legitimate interests in operating, securing, diagnosing and improving Soz;
• Compliance with legal obligations;
• Protection of legal rights and prevention of fraud or abuse.
You may withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.
Third-party service providers
Soz uses third-party companies and services that may process information on behalf of Soz or under their own privacy policies. These may include:
Google Sign-In, Firebase Analytics, Google Translate, YouTube and Google Play billing.

These providers may process data in countries other than your country of residence. Their processing is governed by their own agreements, privacy policies and applicable laws.
Sharing and disclosure
Personal information may be disclosed:
• To service providers necessary to operate Soz;
• When you request a feature that requires a third-party service;
• To comply with applicable law, legal process or a valid government request;
• To investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents or violations of applicable terms;
• To protect the rights, property or safety of users, the developer or others;
• As part of a merger, acquisition or transfer of the Service, subject to appropriate notice and safeguards.
I do not sell your personal information for monetary compensation. However, analytics and advertising-measurement providers may receive technical identifiers, usage events and purchase-related events as described above. Depending on your jurisdiction, this may be considered “sharing” or processing for advertising measurement.
Data retention
Account and profile information is generally retained while your Soz account remains active or as necessary to provide the Service.
Cloud backups are retained as a rotating set associated with your account. Older backup snapshots may be deleted or replaced when new snapshots are uploaded.
Analytics, diagnostic and server-log information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for operation, security, troubleshooting and service improvement, subject to the retention settings and policies of the applicable service providers.
Some information may be retained for a longer period when reasonably necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce agreements or maintain required financial records.
Information that cannot reasonably be linked back to you may be retained in aggregated or anonymized form.
Account and data deletion
You may permanently delete your Soz account and the personal information associated with it.
You can initiate account deletion directly in the Soz App:
1. Open Soz;
2. Go to Profile;
3. Open Account;
4. Select “Delete account” and confirm the deletion.

For security purposes, I may need to verify that you are the owner of the account before processing a request submitted outside the App.
Please indicate whether you signed in with Google or Apple and provide the email address associated with your Soz account. Do not send your Google or Apple password, authentication token or payment information.
Deleting your Soz account will delete:
• Your Soz account and profile information;
• Your name and email address stored by Soz;
• Your Google or Apple account identifier stored by Soz;
• Your active authentication sessions;
• Your learning progress and settings stored on Soz servers;
• Cloud database backups associated with your account.
Some limited information may be retained where required by law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or financial record-keeping. Any retained information will be kept only for the required purpose and period.
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. After deletion, cloud backups and learning progress associated with the deleted account cannot be restored.
Deleting your Soz account does not delete your Google or Apple account. It also does not automatically cancel an active subscription. You must cancel subscriptions separately through Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Information already processed by third-party providers may also be subject to their retention policies. Where required and reasonably possible, deletion requests will be forwarded to the applicable service providers.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
• Request access to your personal information;
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
• Request deletion of your information;
• Request restriction of certain processing;
• Object to certain processing;
• Withdraw consent;
• Request a portable copy of information you provided;
• Lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.

Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.
These measures include protected network communication, access controls, hashed authentication-session tokens and security measures provided by Microsoft Azure and other service providers.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Cookies and similar technologies
The native Soz mobile application does not rely on browser cookies for its core functionality. Third-party SDKs may use application identifiers, local device storage or similar technologies for authentication, analytics, security and advertising measurement.
The Soz website and privacy-policy pages hosted through Google Sites may use cookies or similar technologies operated by Google. Such processing is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
Links to other services
Soz may contain links to third-party websites or services, including app stores and YouTube. If you follow a third-party link, that service may collect information according to its own privacy policy.
I do not control and am not responsible for the content, security or privacy practices of third-party websites and services.
Children’s privacy
Soz is not directed to children under 13 years of age, or a higher minimum age where required by applicable law.
I do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age without legally required parental consent.

International data transfers
Soz and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. These countries may have different data-protection laws.
Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal information.
Changes to this privacy policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the App, service providers, legal requirements or data-processing practices.
Changes will be published on this page with an updated effective date. Where appropriate, material changes may also be communicated through the App.
