An email will be sent out the weekend before the Wednesday of Southside requesting students to sign up as clinicians and assistants. We choose students via a lottery system, reserving half of the slots for experienced clinicians and the other half for new clinicians.
Yes! All student clinicians and assistants must be rabies vaccinated and have completed Block VIIa.
Students have until 5:00PM on the Monday of a Southside clinic to contact a Southside director about their situation. Students who are a no-show/cancel within 24 hours of the clinic without an appropriate excuse will not be allowed to participate in Southside for the next two clinics. No-shows and last-minute cancellations have historically made it extremely difficult for student directors to find suitable replacements in time.Â
Students that do not feel ready to be or are uncomfortable being a clinician are welcome to shadow at a Southside Clinic until they feel ready to take on the role of being a clinician themselves! Additionally, students are always encouraged to reach out to the directors by email, and students that are acting as a first-time clinician will be paired with an experienced student clinician during their first clinic.
Most students drive or carpool, and parking is usually available on Cleveland Avenue near the intersection with South Plain Street. The address of the Southside Community Center is 305 S. Plain Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
