The following four traits are the primary characteristics of successful people. We call them The Core Four and they comprise the backbone of entire program.
Successful people are respectful. They are confident, yet have enough humility to know that the sun does not rise and set with them. When you are respectful of others you put yourself in a position to learn from them. If you are learning, you are getting better, and that is the very definition of success. When you are respectful you also give off a good impression about yourself and earn the respect and admiration of others.
Successful people are responsible people. They are organized and know how to budget their time in order to make sure everything that needs to be done, gets done. They are never late, and they complete all tasks. Simply put: do what you have to do, do it as well as you possibly can, and do it that way all the time.
Successful people aren’t afraid of hard work – in fact they savor it. Because they know that hard work is what separates pretenders from the real thing. Successful people don’t make excuses to avoid hard work, they confront it, accept it, and move forward. There are no shortcuts to anything worthwhile. It takes WORK. The sooner you embrace this, the sooner you will become successful.
Successful people are caring. Most often in life our successes will come as part of a team as opposed to individually. No team can be successful if its members do not care about each other. Every person on this earth is deserving of your empathy, understanding and compassion. Caring about others, especially those you think are difficult to care for, shows true courage and strength. We will not be afraid to say that we care about each other, and we will show it in our actions. Coaches will look to serve players, upperclassmen will serve underclassman, and no one will be placed above anyone else.
