2012 - The Valley of Heart's Delight
In 2012, we represented “The Valley of Heart’s Delight” for our C.O.R.E. piece. An homage to the years when the entire Santa Clara Valley was home to millions of fruit orchards, we chose an iconic fruit cocktail label for the water tower. Inside the tower, plaques represented 48 defunct canneries from many of the cities and neighborhoods in what is now called “Silicon Valley”. Wooden fruit trees, cooperatively painted by members of the community, were laid out in neat rows.
Here’s a YouTube video of our build days that year: Valley of Heart’s Delight. We broke apart box springs that had been donated to the local Hope Services, and used that to make the water tower. A Profiles In Dust video: 2012 South Bay CORE
