What is Study Abroad at Miramar College?

Study abroad is an opportunity to take regular credit courses in an exciting location in another country that greatly enhances the course content. Both classroom time and educational visits to cultural, scientific, and historical sites make a unique and unforgettable experience! 

You and your classmates will spend one week together at Miramar preparing for the program and learning the basics. Then, you will fly to Seoul, South Korea for three weeks with your classmates and faculty. We will be joined in South Korea by program staff from Asia-Pacific Academic, our study abroad partners. 

These are two separate courses, but Professors González and Calanog are connecting and integrating the themes of culture and space. We will emphasize Korean historical and cultural understandings of the universe and the culture of human space exploration. 

 You can take one or both courses as class time alternates in the mornings from Monday through Thursday. Afternoons are spent touring the city together to sites of cultural and astronomical significance as part of our coursework. 

We are planning to have exchanges with Korean college students and local guest speakers. There will be an optional excursion to Jeju Island, for anyone who would like to take the short flight to experience the natural beauty, volcanic cones, haenyeo culture, and unique cuisine of the island. 

Weekends will be free for you to explore on your own, whether you are interested in K-pop or K-dramas, want to explore the food scene, or take the train to Busan!
