The charts included in this section show overall collection and circulation trends from year to year. The data depicted shows growth and changes in various areas from the 2017-2018 school year to the present school year. We are incredibly proud of the changes that have taken place in the library and hope students continue to treat our space as the heart of the school.
Circulation rates depict how often books are checked out. The data below shows that the South Aiken Library circulation rates have increasingly grown over the past seven years. The only academic school year that did not have growth (2020-2021) was significantly impacted by the CO-VID 19 pandemic; students only came to school two days a week for approximately 75% of the school year. Overall, circulation rates have more than tripled since the 2017-2018 school year. This is significant because it proves more students are visiting and using the resources offered in the South Aiken library.
The collection age of a library depicts how old the average book is in the collection based on the publication year. This is important because collection age directly correlates with how credible and/or relevant collection materials are in a library. By increasing the collection age, students have access to more accurate, credible, and culturally relevant material. Over the past seven years, we have worked to purchase a plethora of new material and discarded older items in the hopes of giving patrons access to the best collection possible.
The data in the chart below depicts miscellaneous changes that have occurred in the South Aiken library over the past seven years that prove our library is more credible, culturally relevant, and being used much more often. Essentially, we are continuously working to make the library the heart of the school.
