The library's mission is that of the school's, to develop potential and to discover purpose, by providing materials that compliment the curriculum, broadening the knowledge of our students while also promoting the enjoyment of reading and the pleasure of lifelong learning. Materials further literary, cultural, and aesthetic appreciation. The collection is constantly evaluated for its relevancy and responsiveness to the school's curriculum and patron's needs. The library serves as a center for research and a window to the world.
The South Aiken High School Media Center works to serve its 1400 students and 125 faculty and staff members. Everyone in the South Aiken family is welcome to use the resources and space offered in the library. The South Aiken Media Center collection consists of:
an extensive variety of books in a wide range of lexile levels
a balanced collection of fiction and nonfiction
approximately 13,500 books (97% print, 3% digital, 73% non-fiction, 27% fiction)
novels spanning a wide range of genres (romance, mystery, fantasy, graphic novels, sports, biographies, historical fiction, and many more)
a growing electronic book collection in multiple genres
school-wide reading challenges offered throughout the year
space conducive to a learning commons to foster independent learning
34 desktop computers, two laser printers, and a copier that are readily available for student use
