Free Marketing Training for Producers and Farmers Market Managers

In 2023, our team from the University of Nevada, Reno, Desert Farming Initiative, and Grown in Nevada (formerly Nevada Grown) visited all of the farmers markets in Nevada to learn about the marketing needs of Nevada farmers market managers and farmers. Data was compiled into a needs assessment and submitted for publication. Findings that emerged were an interest in marketing training and resources for farmers and farmers market managers, so our team developed a training series to do just that!

Please join us on January 31st, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV for an in-depth marketing training for Southern Nevada farmers and farmers market managers.

Please bring a laptop to the training session along with your login information for your website, social media, and Google My Business to apply marketing techniques directly to your business. If you do not have a laptop, we have free rentals available.

This event is the first in a series of 5 marketing trainings. After this first in-person event, the remainder of the trainings (1 hour each) will take place weekly on Zoom.

We are searching for volunteers in Las Vegas for our 11th annual Healthy Kids Festival on Saturday, September 30th at the Paradise Recreation Center located at 4775 S McLeod Las Vegas, NV 89121. Volunteers can sign up for the entire day or just a few hours. Please see the link below to sign up and look over the details and learn more about why we do what we do!

September is National Childhood Obesity Prevention Month! For this reason, the University of Nevada Reno Extension and Clark County Parks and Recreation invite families to come out and learn how to be healthy and active.

Our goal is to provide young children with opportunities to make healthier choices and engage in active lifestyles.  Families will participate in a day full of fun while gathering valuable information and resources that are available in our community.

You are essential in helping make the festival possible!  We had an outstanding event last year and are excited to make this year’s event even better! Along with the help of our volunteers, we reached over 1,000 children/adults in Clark County last year, most of whom reported living in low-income zip codes (areas of high food insecurity).

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to another successful event and hope that you will volunteer with us to help support fun activities, healthy food, and childhood obesity awareness/education. Partnering together with similar goals will greatly benefit our community by creating a healthier and happier place to live!

Thank you and please share with others that might want to volunteer!

West Side Food Security Task Force

Meetings held every first Saturday of every month

The West Side Food Security Task Force meeting is held every first Saturday of every month

We welcome and appreciate your input, suggestions and concerns as we develop a community based Task Force that will help to establish a safe and secure space for the community to have not only a voice but a mechanism for action in their community.

The group is designed to act independently, with its own mission and vision that is developed by the community and supported by other entities and organizations that have an intentional interest in a solution for the Historic Westside of Las Vegas.

We are focused on change and action, not on meetings and more meetings.

Your feedback, support, guidance, mentorship, resources and collaboration is essential to building the infrastructure for change. "Food Security" is the challenge "Securing the Food" is the solution.

There is an opportunity to make the problem the solution with wider impact and sustainability for the community.  It requires a shift in thinking and a bottom up approach which means empowering the community.
