We gave four oral presentations at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Phytopathological Society of Japan.

Collaborators from the John Innes Centre (UK) visited our lab. 

We presented seven posters at the 20th Wheat Research Meeting. Ms. Kadota and Ms. Katayama received the Outstanding Presentation Award. Congratulations! 

Ms. Kanyarat Rakpong from Kasetsart University, Thailand, will stay in our lab for six months for collaborative research. 

Dr. Helen Brabham from The Sainsbury Laboratory, UK, will stay in our lab for one month for collaborative research (supported by the JSPS London Short-Term Program). 

Third-year undergraduate students joined our lab. The Members page has been updated. 

The SATREPS project “Mitigation of Wheat Blast Through Integrated Disease Management” has officially started. 

We participated in IS-MPMI 2025 and gave four presentations. 

Our Rwt4 study was featured in Nature Genetics. 

The new academic year has begun. Mr. Morita, a first-year master’s student, joined our lab. We also enjoyed cherry blossom viewing along the Togagawa River. 

Asuke received the 2025 Academic Encouragement Award from the Phytopathological Society of Japan. 

We held Professor Tosa’s final lecture and retirement celebration. 

We participated in the K-MPMI Symposium held at Seoul National University, South Korea. 

Dr. Chang-Hyun Khang (University of Georgia) will stay in our lab for three weeks. 

Dr. Rezaul Kabir (BWMRI) will stay in our lab for about one month (supported by the JSPS Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan). 

We visited the Hyogo Prefectural Technology Center for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

D3 student Islam M. Thoihidul received his Ph.D. Congratulations!!!

We participated in the Kansai Division Meeting of the Phytopathological Society of Japan and the Young Scientists’ Association meeting at Ehime University, where we gave two oral presentations. 

We participated in the Discussion Meeting on Infection Physiology at Nagoya University and presented one poster. 

We visited the National University of Asunción and the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA) in Paraguay.

We attended the 9th International Rice Blast Conference held in Panama, where Professor Tosa and Asuke delivered keynote lectures. Professor Tosa received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations! 

We participated in the Kyoto International Symposium on NLR Biology. 

The new academic year has begun. Keiichi Sota joined our lab as a special research student from the Graduate School of Kyoto Prefectural University.

The FY2023 graduation ceremony was held. Ms. Takata (B4) received the Rikuso Student Award and was also selected as valedictorian of the Faculty of Agriculture. Congratulations to all graduates and degree recipients, and best wishes to Yoshioka-san in future endeavors. 

Visiting Professor Dr. Tofazzal Islam will stay in the Kobe University Plant Pathology Lab for two months (supported by the JSPS Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan). 

M2 student Tsuchiya received the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 22nd Conference on the Molecular Biology of Filamentous Fungi. Congratulations! 

We participated in ICPP2023 Lyon and presented five posters. 

Professor Tosa received the 2023 Japan Agricultural Award / Yomiuri Agricultural Award. Congratulations!!!

Professor Nakayashiki received the 2023 Award of the Phytopathological Society of Japan. Congratulations!!!

Dr. Yoshihiro Inoue, a former member of our lab and currently Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Plant Genetics, Kyoto University, received the 2023 Best Paper Award from the Phytopathological Society of Japan. Congratulations!
