This page is dedicated to layering since there's a lot of confusion and questions. The new tutorial below shows you how to layer and talks about some important things to remember when layering.
Disclaimer: Everything mentioned on this page is mentioned in the new tutorial below
When it comes to layering, the MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to remember is what category you layered under, whether it's "backaccessory" or "torsoaccessory" or "null" or "123," you just need to make sure you DON'T forget or misspell it, preferabbly by writing it down somewhere that it won't get lost.
The layering tutorial has been remade, provided right here. In this video, you are shown how to layer properly on an account that has lots of inventory items + shows you how to remove layers.
Please feel free to message gutzparty.msp2 on Instagram if you have any other questions.
And thank you @kevinfi661.msp for uploading this video so I could add it to the website
Note: This tutorial is the easiest and most simplest way I can show how to layer, if you can't figure it out, I'd recommend to keep trying.
Categories like "backaccessory" , "torsoaccessory" , "armdecal" , etc. are actual categories in the MSP game. So by layering under one of these categories, you wouldn't be able to wear any other item in that category. Layering under an MSP category is only nice if you would like to use a different item to remove the layer later (i.e. layering under "backaccessory" then using a pair of wings to remove the layer). However, the ability to remove the item with another item seems to no longer work after about a week. Meaning, if you keep your layer on for longer than a week and have it layered under a MSP category, like "backaccessory," then a backaccessory will more than likely no longer remove the layer.
Layering under "null" or "null1" or "123" is only slightly different. As these are not actual MSP categories, you can layer an item under "null" or anything really, this just means that you can have your layer on and wear whatever else you want (aka you don't have to avoid back or torso accessories). But the only way to remove layers under non-MSP categories is to layer a new item under the same category.
I would first recommend the item you want to layer to be the most recent item in your inventory to make it easier to find on curatedcontent, however it can be the second or third item too, you'll just have to scroll a little further down on curatedcontent to find it. But, you will not be able to layer an inventory item that is super far down in your inventory.
"Profileinventory" and "Curatedcontentitemplate" breakpoints both need to be enabled.
To layer an inventory item, follow the video tuturial above but ignore the part where you soft an item first. You'll just execute and abort past profileinventory as instructed in the video to get to curatedcontent. Once you're at the correct curatedcontent breakpoint, scroll down till you see "MSP2Data" and "Type," you must make sure the Type category is the same as your recent inventory item, like if you're layering socks, the type needs to say "socks," if it isn't, you'll have to restart the process. Once you do the layer and you load into MSP, go to your inventory and put the layered item on and save it, making sure the profile picture of your avi in the top corner refreshes. After, you'll need to log back out and then log back into your MSP account with no breakpoints on. Once you're signed back in, you'll more than likely see that the layered item is no longer on but don't panic. All you'll need to do is go into your inventory, and do something small to alter your avi (like change the nail polish) so you can save the look with your avi profile picture refreshing, when you load back into the lobby, you'll see that the layer is back on. Simply go to your inventory once more and change a small feature once again (like nail polish), save your outfit and then the layer will be back on.
There are three ways you can remove a soft, however Method Three is the one that will always work.
Method One: If you layered under a category in MSP (i.e. "backaccessory" , "torsoaccessory"), you can attempt to use another item in inventory or shop that falls under that category (example: if you layered under "backaccessory" you can use a pair of wings to remove the layer). You'll need to save the shop/inventory item on your avi and then you can go back into your inventory and take it off and then the layer will be removed. If you do this and when you load back into the chatroom and you're wearing the shop/inventory item as well as the layered item, then refer to Method Three below. If you click on an item in shop under the same category you layered under and the layer doesn't come off, refer to Method Three as well.
Method Two: (This method is good if the layer is stuck on your avi, meaning it won't come off no matter what you do, however Method Three is still the best option). You can temporarily clone your avi into an avi that has no layers on it (preferably some low-level avi). Cloning your avi into a different one should remove the layers, there is the tutorial on how to clone here, however cloning to remove layers won't work after a certain amount of time of having the layer on.
Method Three: (This is the best method for removing softs, which is why it's so important to remember what category you layered your item under). All you would need to do is layer a new item under the same category, easiest is to just layer the most recent item in your inventory (make sure you're not already wearing it though). To layer an inventory item, just follow the tutorial regularly but execute past the profileinventory breakpoints (don't put any item or color codes in) and then you will be given curatedcontent breakpoint as normal and you will scroll down briefly till you see "MSP2Data" and under it will be the category of your most recent inventory item. Change that to the category that you used on the layered item you want to remove. Once you load back into MSP, go to inventory and put on the new layered item, it will remove the old layer, and then you need to save your outfit, and then you can go back into inventory to remove the new layer.
