B.Tech in Food Technology

Basic qualification for the course is XII Std. Students who have passed in 10+2 pattern from Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics scoring minimum 50% marks and who have been ranked in the Kerala Engineering Agriculture Medical (KEAM) degree examination for Engineering stream conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination- Kerala shall be admitted based on their KEAM rank.

The course spreads over 4 years (8 semesters).

Course content is given more importance in practical / practice contents covering all aspects of Food Process Technology, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Food Process Engineering, Food Business Management, Food Plant Operations, Basic Engineering Basic Sciences and Humanities.

Syllabus also covers various stages, such as growing, harvesting, storing fruit, and usage of preservatives to prevent it from going bad, processing fruit to make other edible items in processing plants, packaging fruit and fruit products, transporting edible items and fruit from one place to another etc. Syllabus is framed according to Student READY programme(Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana) which includes Experiential Learning , In-plant training , Project etc.


At the end of the course students will :

  • receive exposure to Industrial environment, familiarize the students with various Materials, Machines, Processes, Products and their applications along with relevant aspects of shop management.

  • understand the psychology of the workers, and approach to problems along with the practices followed at factory.

  • understand the scope, functions and job responsibility-ties in various departments of an organization.
