Allyship Program

About the Program

The International Scholars Task Forcea dedicated group of graduate students, postdocs, and facultymakes a commitment to ease every international scholar's (1) transition to the US and (2) integration into our community at Steward Observatory.

Guided by the feedback we have received from current international graduate students, postdocs, and faculty at Steward, the International Scholars Allyship Program offers to pair every incoming international graduate student or postdoc with 1-2 established graduate students or postdocs who will be the scholar's allies and advocates during their transitions to life in the US. From helping new international scholars navigate the process of moving (i.e., providing aid for transportation/airport pick ups, housing searches, utilities setup, and purchasing necessities) to introducing them to the different social circles (e.g., gaming, cycling, rock climbing, cooking, running) within Steward, we will do our best to help any new scholar as a valuable member of our community.

If you are a newly arriving scholar, please check out the checklist we created to help you get started.

If you are interested in joining the Allyship Program, please see the program guidelines and fill out one of the following surveys:

Once your survey is submitted, a member of our task force will reach out to you promptly if you are a new scholar. Prospective allies will be entered into our database of eligible allies; we will contact you if you have been paired with a newly arriving scholar.
