Three separate versions for students ages 2-5, 6-11, 18-25

Assesses numerous aspects of adaptive and maladaptive behavior using a rating scale of never-sometimes-frequently for 71 specific behaviors

Used for: clinical diagnosis, educational classification, and program evaluation

• treatment planning, forensic evaluation and research, manifestation determination

11 total components including:

1. Teacher Rating Scale: different forms focus on age appropriate behaviors (age 2-5, 6-11, 12-21). Rate behaviors never, sometimes, often, almost always.

• externalizing problems, internalizing problems, school problems, adaptive skills composite, behavioral symptoms index

2. Parent Rating Scale: same as teacher rating scale but for home behaviors

• same as above minus study skills subscales, added activities of daily living

3. Self-Report Personality: yes/no questions with follow-up questions for ages 6-7, other versions mark short statements true/false or rank from never to almost always for ages 8-11, 12-21, and 18-25

   • inattention/hyperactivity, internalizing problems, personal adjustment, school problems

4. Structured Development History: interview or questionnaire outlines social, psychological, developmental, educational and medical history

5. Student Observation System: adaptive and maladaptive behaviors coded on paper or online in a 15 minute observation

• behavior key and checklist: 71 specific behaviors ranked never, sometimes, frequently

• time sampling of behavior: was behavior present during a 30-second observation?

• teacher interaction: interactions with students coded on position, techniques used to respond to behavior, additional relevant observations

Measures the occurrence of adaptive and maladaptive behaviors which represent both behavioral problems and strengths including: internalizing problems, externalizing problems, school problems and adaptive skills.

Helps differentiate between hyperactivity and attention problems.

Helps identify behavior problems as required by IDEA, and for developing FBAs, BIPs, and IEPs.

Student Observation System:

• takes 15 minutes

• behavior occurrence checklist, rank 71 behaviors from never to almost always

Parent Rating scale

• takes 10-15 minutes

• includes questions about home behaviors

Teacher Rating scale

• takes 10-15 minutes

• rank behaviors from never to almost always

Teacher rating scale, Parent rating scale and Self-report have normative data provided which allow classification statements to be made

Developmental history and Student Observation system aren't norm referenced but can provide a lot of useful information
