A Brief History of Social Studies Journal

• The Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies (PCSS) began a newsletter in 1954

• As manuscripts grew longer and more in-depth, the council recognized the need for an academic journal

• Social Studies Journal began in 1967, and became peer-reviewed within the next several years

• SSJ has always encouraged submissions from both scholars and teachers

• Issues have been produced from both open-calls and themed-calls
