The word democracy has been used to describe the form of government in America. We, as a nation, were NEVER meant to be a democracy - which is mob rule! The will of the many 'voting' to violate the rights of the few is not the vision our founders had for this country! Yes, there are times when something is 'for the good of the whole' and should be enforced on all BUT those events are few and far between.
Allowing the majority to dictate the actions of the few is not how a Republic form of government operates. When a bill or law is proposed the author, who took an oath to protect and defend the constitution, should weigh the consequences of enforcing the law against the possibility of violating the peoples rights. The act of presenting such a bill is, at the very least, dereliction of duty and in extreme cases treason! The passage of such a bill is proof those elected to be the people's voice in Washington do NOT have the best interest of their constituents in mind!
An example would be the requirement for a background check before purchasing a firearm. The violation of the purchasers right to privacy out weighs the possibility of the purchaser having an evil intent - which would be negated if everyone was armed at all times!
The second Amendment states as a fact - the right of the people to have and bear arms - while prohibiting government from violating that right - shall not be infringed!
Punishing the innocent/the many because of the crimes of the guilty/the few is a guaranteed recipe for disaster! That is like you using birth control to prevent the neighbor from having children!
