There were limited interviews about the director's intentions with regards to computing about Pacific Rim: Uprising. The director, Steven S. DeKnight, states that one of the most important aspects of the movie was The Drift, which he says is "the idea of people from different cultures coming together and working toward a common good" [1]. Furthermore, he stated that he wanted to emphasize the previous director's concept that "the technology is nothing without two people inside it who have to put their differences aside and work together to make it operate" and that the idea of the Drift is that "you're putting trauma out of your mind, and uniting to fight a monster", which is a "positive sentiment" [2].
