Our Div. B invitational competition will be February 14, 2026!
Here you can find important information if you are a prospective UConn student who's considering joining our organization.
What is Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad is a national STEM competition where students compete in events spanning biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, and earth science. We are a university chapter of Science Olympiad that organizes and hosts invitational competitions each year for middle school and high school students. You can learn more at www.soinc.org.
Do I need to be a STEM major to join?
No! People of all backgrounds are welcome to join Science Olympiad at UConn. In fact, by having a more diverse population of members, we are able to create far more engaging and well designed events.
Am I expected to come to every meeting?
No, you aren't expected to come to every meeting, although we hope that attending our club meetings is a fulfilling and rewarding experience for you and it's something that you want to do. We'd love it if you can make it to every meeting, but we know that you're busy and sometimes are unavailable. We completely understand if you aren't able to make it sometimes.
Are there organization dues I would have to pay?
Dues are not expected from any member. All of our funding comes from competition fees and volunteer fundraising. You are more than welcome to donate if you would like to support us. Please contact our treasurer if this is something that you are considering.
When and where do you meet?
We meet Wednesdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Our meeting location changes from semester-to-semester because of the way that UConn handles room reservations. To get the current meeting location, you can check our announcements via Discord. You don't need to stay for the full duration and you may arrive late if needed. We know that you have a busy life and are thankful that you are willing to share some of your time with us.
What would I be doing during club meetings?
During club meetings, we prepare and plan for our upcoming competition. The bulk of this preparation is writing and creating the tests for each of the different events. We also make sure to have fun, playing different games and activities along the way! If you are joining our organization's meetings after our competition in the first half of the second semester, you could expect to be fundraising, doing fun activities, and learning on how to make our competitions better.
