Question: What is the difference between the Upson County Animal Control/Shelter and the Thomaston - Upson Humane Society?
The Upson County Animal Control / Shelter is an Upson County municipally funded department whose purpose is to control the stray and nuisance animal problems in Upson County. Upson Animal Control/Shelter can retrieve or accept animals, adopt out animals, and release animals to rescues.
The Thomaston Upson County Humane Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose focus is on spay and neuter assistance in Upson County. The Humane Society does not accept animals, retrieve, adopt, foster, or release animals to rescues.
SNUP (Spay Neuter Upson Pets) is an all volunteer organization which will work with and through various organizations to assist in the education and dissemination of information on spay/neuter, shelter rescues, fosters, and overall pet health material.

The Upson County Humane Society was founded in 1984 and celebrated 25 years in 2009.
The Humane Society is not the Animal Shelter or animal control. Shelter volunteers make pictures of shelter dogs that they post on facebook in various locations, including this page. The Humane Society cannot guarantee the health or temperament of any pet adopted from the animal shelter. Shelter personnel are the ones that make that determination.

Upson County Animal Shelter is open to the public Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no holidays) and Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
