2022 FEIS Appeal
Statement and Appeal
In December of 2021, the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was published by the City of Snoqualmie and Snoqualmie Mill Ventures, LLC. This final statement includes the entire Draft EIS (2,921 pages), responses to all of the concerns raised by Draft EIS comments (832 pages) and an additional 493 pages totaling 4,246 pages of documentation to review. The community was given 14 days to raise a formal appeal against the completeness of that FEIS.
SCAN made the decision to appeal the FEIS because we believed (and continue to believe) that the plan put forth was inadequate related to toxic contamination, traffic, water availability, and other issues such as the developer paying their fair share of the cost to the city. Our volunteers and hired consultants reviewed the FEIS in that short time frame and submitted a formal appeal. We also hired an environmental law firm to represent us at the appeal which occurred in early April of 2022. The appeal itself ended up taking 5 days of testimony from our hired consultants against the arguments of the City and Developer's professional consultants.
At the end of June 2022, after three months of deliberation and review of the presented appeal and arguments, the Hearing Examiner sided with the City and Developer.
Although this was a major milestone we were hoping to win, this setback is not stopping us from taking the next steps in continuing to fight for protection of the Snoqualmie River and the future of the Mill Site.
