In addition to working to protect the Snoqualmie Valley from harmful effects of the proposed Snoqualmie Mill development, SCAN has a number of other projects.
SCAN is participating in a joint project with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Orca Conservancy and Friends of The Snoqualmie Valley Trail and River to monitor the water temperature in the Snoqualmie River. Water temperature is crucial to healthy fish populations. These fish are in turn crucial to the survival of the orca population in Puget Sound. When the river is too warm, fish are not able to survive and reproduce. The river is warmed by the sun when there are not enough trees along the banks, by high air temperatures, and by warm water entering the river from sewage treatment plants and stormwater runoff from streets, parking lots, and buildings.

SCAN organizes community garbage pickups in the City of Snoqualmie and has plans to schedule additional pickup activities along the Snoqualmie River including parking areas frequented by floaters, boat launches, etc. This is an important volunteer event to protect the beauty of our communities and keep garbage from entering the water.Â
If you are interested in participating in one of our upcoming events, please contact us.
In connection with the Take Back The Night Foundation, SCAN held Take Back The Night events in June 2021 and June 2022. Take Back The Night is a worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence. No person should need to fear for their safety, regardless of their gender, what they look like, what they wear, or the community they are in. We are planning to schedule another event in early fall of 2023. If you are interested in participating in the event, please contact us.
SCAN sponsored a self-defense course in 2022. This training was intended to show vulnerable members of our community some basic ways to protect themselves if they are attacked. If you are interested in participating in future self defense courses, please contact us for more information.
