Flights can be expensive. Taking a look at average flights from the US to Europe can range between 600 to 1000–and thats only including economy tickets.
There are many budget airlines out there, however you may find out later on that the price of checking you luggage and other amenities may add up to the same price as a standard airline ticket. Therefore, how did a couple of 20 year olds find a flight ticket for $70 round trip from Massachusetts to Europe with American Airlines?
That's right! Our flight tickets only cost $70 dollars with American Airlines. How did we come across such a deal? Well, these deals are floating around the internet with major credit card companies. In addition, sometimes the flight attendants will talk about these deals before you land at your destination, turns out its worth taking of your headphones and listening to what they have to say! This particular deal with American Airlines was partnered with Barclay, which offered us a Aviator Master Credit Card. In order to activate the benefits listed below you need to make a single purchase on the card and you should be good to use the AAdvantage bonus miles to book a flight!
Using the American Airlines website, we had to research and test try different cities to find which would work, but luckily we knew family was going to go land in Germany before we started our Rick Steves tour in Prague, so we really only needed to figure out our flight leaving from Europe.
Luckily, I've always had a dream of visiting Switzerland especially after seeing so many Bollywood movies being filmed in the Swiss Alps! After plugging in Zurich, we hit the jackpot and saw the lowest ticket price I had ever seen in my life (even domestic!).
Now, you can see there is a $99 annual fee, so you can consider that our flight ticket cost $169 per person. Yet, I would take this deal any day over $700+. In addition, if you do not want to keep the Aviator card, you can cancel it anytime before the next yearly billing cycle appears. However, if you know you will be traveling more often it's worth the $99 fee especially if you are checking in luggage (which you get to do for free on domestic flights).
However, if you are still not convinced I highly recommend going to Rick Steves Budget Friendly Flight Page where they discuss in great detail and extent what are some good, cheap airlines to take.
