Joining via Zoom: Please join our Google group to receive the Zoom link and password. Please mute yourself during the talk.
Asking questions: If you have any clarification questions during the talk, please post them on the chat box. One of us will monitor the chat box. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the talk, when you will have an opportunity to talk to the speaker and ask any further questions.
Talk video: The talks will be recorded and publicly posted. If you do not wish to appear in the video, please mute yourself on Zoom.
Slides will be posted on the Upcoming Seminars page before the seminar begins.
Want to catch up with others? You are welcome to hang around a bit longer after the talk to chitchat and catch up with others!
Designing the talk:
General introduction in the beginning: In the beginning of the talk, it would be helpful to give a general introduction to the area, including a flavor of problems that occur here.
Open problems at the end: Please mention some open problems after the talk.
Accessible: Please keep the talk accessible to the broad APS/Sigmetrics audience (keep in mind the graduate students in the area).
Share slides: Please share your slides at least one day before the talk. Since the seminar is on a virtual platform, we want to make the slides available to the audience (through our website). This way, the audience can go back and forth on their local copy, helping them better follow the talk. The slides will be shared on our website. Of course, you can update them after the talk if you wish.
Giving the talk:

Show up early: Please join the Zoom link at least 15 minutes before the talk. Once we have everything set up, you may of course, get a coffee or something.
Screen share: You may open your slides in presentation mode (full screen mode) on your laptop, and share your screen to present the talk. Alternately, if you have a writing device (such as an iPad), you may also write while you screen share.
Break: It will be nice if you give a short 1-2 minute break somewhere midway in the talk, so that anyone else can ask a quick question.
Q&A: Usually, questions from the audience will not be asked during the talk. However, the organizers will keep monitoring the chat box, and if there are any clarification questions, one of the organizers will interrupt you and ask them. We will have a more elaborate Q&A session at the end of the talk, where anyone that has a question will have an opportunity to ask them.
Co-authors: You are welcome (but not required) to have your co-authors monitor the chat box and answer any questions. If you do this, please announce it at the beginning of the talk.
Publicly posting the talk video: The talk will be recorded and eventually be posted on Youtube. We assume that we have your consent for this.
