B4cl are a group of neurons located on the dorsal surface of each buccal ganglia. They surround the large B4 motoneuron. The B4cl neurons are electrically coupled with each other as well as with the B4 and B8 motoneurons. B4cl neurons innervates the anterior jugalis muscle in the buccal mass. During feeding cycles, B4cl neurons are active during the late rasp and early swallow phases. They are inhibited by rasp phase interneuron N2d, but not N2v, and swallow phase interneuron N3p and are electrically coupled with the swallow phase interneurons N3t, N3p and OC. They receive strong excitation from the modulatory interneuron, CGC.
