PROGRAM GOALS
By May 2024 the counseling team will conduct at least 4 classroom guidance lessons, per grade level, based on campus needs assessment results, college and career readiness needs, and Counseling Advisory Council (CAC) feedback to reach 98% of our student population.
The will counselor will have met with students who failed a class for the 9 weeks or has 3 or more discipline referrals. In order to facilitate student ownership of learning/behavior, the counselor and student will work together to create an Academic Achievement Plan and/or a Behavior Improvement Plan.
By the end of the 2023-2024 school year the counselor will have met with each student in that grade level individually to complete a social emotional check in.
Counselors will utilize feedback provided by our CAC and highlight topics during "Coffee with the Counselors" meetings throughout the school year. At least one meeting will be focused on providing an overview of high school graduation planning.

IMPULSE CONTROL LUNCH BUNCH
In October of 2023 our 8th grade counselor developed a series of five lunch bunch lessons to complete with a small group of 8th grade male students. These students were selected after consideration of a few different factors, the main factor being students who lacked impulse control. These students had behavior concerns from both teachers and parents and both parties expressed concerns about how their behavior impacts them in and out of the classroom. Each of the seven students also had an increase in discipline referrals for impulsive behavior. The goal of the small group lunch bunch lessons was to increase impulse control, have students practice self control and self regulation skills, and examine how our thoughts influence our feelings and our actions.
The pre assessment survey shows that 3 out of the 7 students felt no control over their own actions, 3 out of 7 felt they had little control, and 1 out of 7 reported having some control.
After completing the five lessons, the post assessment survey showed great impovement in how each student felt about themselves and their ability to control their own actions. At the end, 6 out of the 7 students reported all having some control.

COMMUNITY COORDINATION: DAY TO SERVE
One of the attributes that our counseling office strives to teach our students is the importance of servant leadership. In order to provide our students with knowledge of how to serve their community our campus hosts a Day to Serve for our students. We partner with community agencies and ask them speak to our students about different age appropriate volunteer opportunities within the community. Our students had the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers from agencies such as Houston Pets Alive, Houston Welcomes Refugees, and Children's Advocates of Fort Bend. They created foster bags of dog and cat food for pets and created welcome kits for refugees, made friendship bracelets for children in hospital, hand tied blankets for patients undergoing treatment, and and learned about many different service opportunities.
Creating dog food bags for shelter animals
Learning about how to support refugee families
Creating encouraging notes for children in foster care.
