About
"at The Lion" is a venue focusing on church-sponsored\public-oriented functions, located at pedestrian-friendly 13th & R streets. It is hosted by St. Mark’s on the Campus Episcopal Church for our neighbors in the UNL and Lincoln communities, for arts-minded folk at Poetry at the Lion (2nd Fridays), and for more civic & academic-minded folk at Potluck Possibilities at the Lion (4th Fridays). All such folk are welcome at both events, of course!
Guests may study, write, read, relax, sit, talk, and generally socialize with friends over coffee, tea, and other beverages from opening at 5:30 PM until 6:00 PM when featured activities begin. In the case of Poetry Readings, if time remains, Open Mic will follow until closing. in the case of Potluck Possibilities, social time will follow if time permits. In all cases, doors close promptly at 8:00 PM.
For Potlucks, the hours remain the same, but guests get to chow down as well as sip tea, coffee, or water. Any entertainment, other than eating and chatting, will vary from week to week. Consider it a way for members of the public to get to know each other.
If you have an idea for giving a reading at The Lion, or giving a presentation, please email Reading Ideas.
The Lion, and the church in general, provide space for activities relating to things such as music, graphic & plastic art, and poetry & literature; as well as other presentations (like Potlucks), including organ recitals, that might interest people in our neighborhood. They might be presented outside in the courtyard when appropriate or weather permitting. Such presentations are presented by the church or by external organizations; however, fees might apply for use of the space by external organizations where the church merely provides space.
You may call St. Mark’s on the Campus Episcopal Church if you have questions about times and dates for the venue at 402-474-1979 during office hours: Monday or Tuesday through Thursday, 11 am to 2:30 pm. Your best option is to visit this website for such information.
