The Blue Crabs are excited to announce that the first player in Blue Crabs history has committed to a college program! James Kershner, a senior at South Hagerstown High, officially signed with Hagerstown Community College today.
Kasey Walker, the President of the Blue Crabs, said the following about James: “Congratulations to James Kershner on his signing day! The Smithsburg Blue Crabs family could not be more proud of this exceptional young man for what he has done, and continues to accomplish, both on and off the baseball diamond! We know he will do well as he continues his studies and baseball career at Hagerstown Community College! James first came to the SBC program in the fall of 2017 and he has been a respected leader and integral part of the program ever since. James has been a trailblazer for his teammates, and the program in general, as he becomes the first SBC player to commit to play college baseball. He continues to work hard every day and he is an exceptional mentor to his teammates. James’ continuous commitment to his teammates and the program has made him a beloved member of the SBC family and we all hope for the best for him on the diamond, in the classroom, and in life! James, we are so proud of you! Again, congratulations and best of luck to you in the future.”
Coach Eric Scheller, the head coach of the 17u Blue Crabs, said: “On behalf of the 17u team, we want to congratulate James on signing to Hagerstown Community College. Since I came to the program, James has served as a leader for the team and program. He wants to be the best player he can and play at the next level, where I know he will succeed. James’ dedication and work ethic shows that James is going to excel in his next journey and is the perfect fit to be the Blue Crabs first ever college signee.”
Coach Juwuane Sandridge, head coach at South Hagerstown High, said: “On behalf of the SHHS Baseball Program, I'd like to congratulate James Kershner for continuing his athletic career at the collegiate level. James has worked extremely hard to achieve this goal. Most importantly he has excelled in the classroom while taking advantage of his growth and development as an athlete. Coach Jennings, the head coach at Hagerstown Community College, said: “We are pleased to welcome James to HCC. He will be a fine addition to the baseball program. James has excelled academically and is the type of student-athlete that thrives in our program.”
James has played for the Blue Crabs since 2017 and has been a leader since he came to the program. The Blue Crabs are very excited for James and wish him the best!
