Coach Eric Scheller enters his first year as Head Coach of the 17u Blue Crabs. Prior to becoming head coach, Coach Scheller served as an assistant on the 16u Blue Crabs for the 2020/2021 season, serving as catching and bench coach. In Janurary 2021, Coach Scheller joined the Wilson College coaching staff in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, serving as the catching coach. In the 2021 season, the Pheonix went 21-6, finishing in second place in the CSAC in the regular season and as runner-up in the CSAC tournament.
Prior to coming to Smithsburg, Coach Scheller served as an assistant coach for the 17u Central Maryland Cyclones, a showcase team based in Sykesville, Maryland. With the Cyclones, Coach Scheller served as hitting and catching coach, as well as third base coach. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Coach Scheller served as the catching coach at Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland. The Owls finished 6-4 before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coach Scheller played baseball at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland from 2015-2017. Before attending Hood College, Coach Scheller played at Century High School in Sykesville, Maryland.
Coach Scheller earned his Bachelor's degree in Law and Criminal Justice in 2019. Off the field, Coach Scheller is a police officer in Montgomery County, Maryland. Coach Scheller lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia with his wife, Kaitlin, and his two dogs, Bentley and Dakota.
