Smiha Kapoor is an interdisciplinary artist and facilitator whose practice centres on the body as both vessel and site of transformation. Working across drawing, installation, image-based media, and live performance, her work explores the dynamic interplay between body, memory, and space. Drawing upon symbolic frameworks that tap into deeper archetypal energies, such as creation, continuity, and transformation, her practice transcends specific forms, resonating with broader existential and social realities. This opens space for reflection on personal histories and their relation to wider socio-political landscapes. She seeks to restore a sense of balance amid the fragmentation and alienation of contemporary life, offering moments of catharsis, care, and reconnection in response to the disruptions that shape modern social and physical landscapes. Through this, she positions art as a means of reclaiming lost connections within the personal and the collective.
Her practice is often responsive to site and context, incorporating her environment as an active collaborator in creating a dialogue that reflects the interconnected histories of space and the body. Her works retain a sense of suspended performativity through minimal, fluid, and reflective forms and materials, and she engages with relational networks, site-specific happenings, and participatory processes to invite her surroundings to perform with and become part of the work.
Smiha's practice has been nurtured through collaborative efforts within Singapore's creative community and she has presented her works internationally in Thailand, Indonesia, Germany and India. She has showcased her work at NUS Museum, Arts Outreach Singapore, Nandur Srawung, Indonesia. In 2021, Smiha graduated with a Bachelor's in Fine Art (Hons) from LASALLE College of the Arts and was the recipient of the Winston Oh Travelogue Awards '21. She is a member of The Artists Village Singapore since 2023.
