San Mateo Highlands CERT is part of a nationwide program that (1) provides basic disaster training to members of the local community and (2) coordinates their activities in a disaster situation if professional responders are not immediately available. San Mateo Highlands CERT is located in San Mateo, CA and sponsored by San Mateo County Fire Department (SMCFD) Station 17.
The San Mateo Highlands CERT program will train Highlands residents and other community members in emergency preparedness and basic disaster response techniques. As volunteers they will take a critical role in providing critical support to emergency service personnel during emergencies.
To train, educate, and inform the public regarding emergency preparedness, so they may be better prepared to provide critical support in a safe manner to their neighbors and the community before, during, and after a major disaster.
To recruit and train volunteers to manage and implement these goals and objectives as part of organized teams under the guidance of SMCFD.
To perform other duties as assigned or requested by SMCFD.
The San Mateo Highlands CERT receives its direction and operates at the discretion of the SMCFD and the San Mateo Highlands CERT Steering Committee.
