- Schools establish a culture focused on growth and problem-solving, iteration and project-based learning.
- Grades / Assessments are feedback for continuous improvement, not final judgements of ability.

- Explicit teaching of growth mindset and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Project based learning in which students (and faculty) are encouraged to iterate, revise, try again, etc. For example, practicing presentations until they get it right, building apps, revising writing, etc.
- Awards/recognition for risk taking.
- Continuous learning opportunities and professional development for teachers and staff.
- Design Thinking and other problem solving methods built into projects.
- Programs such as Junior Achievement, 4-H, etc., robotics clubs, which model building, iterating and repeating.

- Lowering rigor to facilitate projects.
- Ignoring structural inequities, teaching the myth of meritocracy as truth.
- Students or adults saying "I will never be good at this" or "I am not a math person."

A Diverse by Design, STEAM based school in Oakland in which students do project based learning activities, including an end of the year Capstone project, in which students must reflect upon and present how they have learned from failure and improved.
The school also does awards and recognition based on learning from failure.
This represents “learning mindset” as all learners are encouraged to take risks in their academic and social-emotional learning, and systems, structures, school culture, and curriculum and instruction weave in these mindsets.

Students and staff are given the space to take risks, including in design thinking projects as well as daily assignments. School Culture supports risk taking as well.
