LIBRARY POLICIES

Who can borrow and for how long?

Circulation Services is now open for SMC students.

Note: If the due date is a non-working holiday, the student/parent/guardian may return the book next week.

How to borrow library material?

To borrow, go to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) if you want to find a specific book and/or if you don’t know where to find a book. Fill out a call slip which can be found on the OPAC. Copy the author’s name, short title, and call number. Locate the books in the stacks. The books are open on shelves and are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. When the book you want is not on the shelves, inquire at the Information Desk, for the book may be out at the moment.

Reference books are for room use only. They are arranged also by Dewey Decimal Classification. (dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, almanacs, directories, bibliographies, maps, and atlases).

Faculty members may borrow and bring audio-visual material for use as instructional aide.

o Faculty and staff members of SMC are entitled to borrow books and other instructional materials.

o General references shall be read only in the library.

o All books and other instructional materials borrowed from the library shall be returned before the end of the school year.

o Lost or damaged library materials borrowed shall be paid by the borrower at the prevailing price or may be replaced upon mutual agreement of the borrower and the librarian.

o Only faculty and staff with no overdue loans can borrow books from the library.

o A student presents a library card to the Information Desk.

o The student locates the book to be borrowed, fills out the book card, and presents the same to the Information Desk.

o A librarian at the Information Desk checks if the student has an overdue loan.

o If a student has a clean record, the librarian inspects the book and then gets the book card and files the card.

o The student can then check out the book
