LIBRARY POLICIES
Who can borrow and for how long?
Circulation Services is now open for SMC students.
Kindergarten, Grade 1 & 2 students can borrow 2 books for 7 days (e.g. August 24, 2022–August 31, 2022).
Grade 3 – 6 students can borrow up to 3 books for 7 days (e.g. August 24, 2022 – August 31, 2022).
Grade 7 – 10 students can borrow up to 4 books for 7 days (e.g. August 24, 2022 – August 31, 2022).
Grade 11 & 12 students can borrow up to 5 books for 7 days (e.g. August 24, 2022 – August 31, 2022).
Note: If the due date is a non-working holiday, the student/parent/guardian may return the book next week.
How to borrow library material?
Circulation Books
To borrow, go to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) if you want to find a specific book and/or if you don’t know where to find a book. Fill out a call slip which can be found on the OPAC. Copy the author’s name, short title, and call number. Locate the books in the stacks. The books are open on shelves and are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. When the book you want is not on the shelves, inquire at the Information Desk, for the book may be out at the moment.
Reference Books
Reference books are for room use only. They are arranged also by Dewey Decimal Classification. (dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, almanacs, directories, bibliographies, maps, and atlases).
Audio-Visual Materials
Faculty members may borrow and bring audio-visual material for use as instructional aide.
Guidelines for Faculty and Staff in Borrowing Books and Library Materials
o Faculty and staff members of SMC are entitled to borrow books and other instructional materials.
o General references shall be read only in the library.
o All books and other instructional materials borrowed from the library shall be returned before the end of the school year.
o Lost or damaged library materials borrowed shall be paid by the borrower at the prevailing price or may be replaced upon mutual agreement of the borrower and the librarian.
o Only faculty and staff with no overdue loans can borrow books from the library.
Checkout Procedures
o A student presents a library card to the Information Desk.
o The student locates the book to be borrowed, fills out the book card, and presents the same to the Information Desk.
o A librarian at the Information Desk checks if the student has an overdue loan.
o If a student has a clean record, the librarian inspects the book and then gets the book card and files the card.
o The student can then check out the book
Online Borrowing
· For Non-Internet Users (Using OPAC)
The student/parent/guardian will find a book on the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) located at the library.
If the student/parent/guardian found the specific book, fill out a call slip that can be found also on OPAC.
On call slip, write the author’s name, the title of the book, and a call number.
Give the call slip to the librarian, and a librarian will give you the book.
The student/parent/guardian must present the I.D. of the student or any document that the student is enrolled for S.Y.
The student/parent/guardian needs to fill out the book card.
On the book card, write the date, the name of the student, and the grade level/section.
Give the book card to the librarian, the librarian will give the borrower’s slip to the student/parent/guardian, and the parent/guardian can check out the book.
· For Non-Internet Users (not using OPAC)
The student/parent/guardian can ask the librarian what book they need to borrow or give the title of the book, and the librarian will find it if the book is available or not.
The student/ parent/guardian must present the I.D. of the student or any document that the student is enrolled for S.Y. If the book/s is/are found, the student/parent/guardian needs to fill out the book card.
On the book card, write the date, the name of the student, and the grade level/section.
Give the book card to the librarian, and the librarian will give the borrower’s slip to the student/parent/guardian, and the parent/guardian can check out the book.
· For Internet User (Using Library Website) option
Go to the library site: sites.google.com/view/smclibrarymediacenter
Click the “Library Catalog”. Go to the preferred collection (Grade School Collection, High School Collection, and Senior High School Collection).
After you browse or search for a book, click the “Reserve Book”, you can now fill out the form to reserve.
The librarians will confirm the reservation via email. Once confirmed, the student/guardian can now borrow the book on the pick-up date at the library.
Note: If the book is not available on our site, the parents can directly borrow at the library, ask the librarian.
· For Internet User (Using Facebook Page) option
Search the book on the website.
Go to our Facebook Page (Stella Maris College Library Media Center, Quezon City), and message us the following:
o Name of the Student:
o Grade Level/Section:
o Title of the Book:
o Pick-up Date:
The librarians will confirm the reservation. Once confirmed, the student/parents can now borrow the book on the pick-up date at the library.
Note: If the book is not available on our site, the parents can directly borrow it at the library, or ask the librarian.
When the student/parent is done reserving a book, they will receive an email attachment; the attachment contains an acknowledgment or a reservation slip that the student/parent reserved the book/s.
When the parent picks up the book, they will receive an email attachment; the attachment is a Loan Receipt, also the parent will receive a borrower’s slip given by the librarians.
The library will automatically notify the student/parent when they need to return the book on a specific date and when they have an overdue thru their email.
