After looking at the surveys online regarding problems in current shopping carts, it was clear that there are many possible improvements to shopping carts.
So, to come up with a better cart which solves most problems, we would have to go to different stores in the city and observe people on how they use those carts and the problems they are facing. Then, we planned on interviewing shoppers who use those carts.
We also had to interview the managers of the stores to know their view on the issues. Going to different types of stores, small ones, as well as large ones, gave us different sorts of problems and we would eventually work on how to make a better cart suitable for every store.
Now, we had realized that there are a lot more functionalities that can be added to the basic carts based on the problems that we had figured out-
Many a times, the price(and other details) tags are misplaced and people aren't able to know the price, discount and other details. Therefore our Android app for the cart lets you scan the product's bar code to get the useful details for the product.
Waiting in queues for billing is not a pleasant task and no one is interested in wasting their time. We have added billing system in the cart itself using RFiD sensors so that everyone prepares their own bill which will not only save time but will also reduce labor cost for billing counters. Also,it will help customers to estimate their bill and calculate discount, if any.
There have also been instances of theft wherein people take items they have not paid for. To eradicate such crimes, we have added RFID tags to all items such that a RFID scanner security gate will detect if someone crosses it without paying even for a single item as a manual check by security staffs consumes time and the method is not fool-proof.
