Throughout the semester, there will be the opportunity to attend events related to Slow Food and work on the Slow Food Farm plot at the Kate Farm. These represent a great chance to engage with our peers outside of class, learn about how to practically engage with the Slow Food Movement, and above all else, taste and eat great food!
Every Friday throughout the semester (weather permitting), I will host Farm Fridays at the Kate Chandler Campus Community Farm from 3:00-5:00PM. This will be an open-invite to anyone who wishes to help maintain, harvest, plant, and spend time at Slow Food Farms. This is not only available to our class, so if you have friends outside of our class who you want to bring along, please do not hesitate to do so.
**Note - As the weather cools later in the semester, the work on the farm will become more maintenance oriented and higher chance to be cancelled. So you may want to attend more Farm Fridays early in the semester than later.
Throughout the semester, we will be partnering and collaborating with other ENST classes and campus clubs for Slow Food adjacent events. These will be announced in-class, via email, and on the Google classroom site. These events will range from Tomato Sauce making with the Veggie Co-op Club, Movie Nights at the Kate Farm, and visits to the local farmers market.
You are required to reach at least 10 Engaged Learning Hours throughout the semester to receive an A in the class following the Specifications grading rubric. While there will be plenty of opportunities through Slow Food-related events and Farm Fridays to get the 10 hours, you can also use the schedule below to identify times when Kate Farm interns will be out at the farm to help coordinate and lead farm-related work. After each event, you must fill out the Google Form below to receive credit for the event!
