We are residents of the Corktown, Hamilton who are worried about traffic safety in our neighbourhood. After a recent collision that resulted in a gas line leak that lasted several hours, we decided enough was enough. We want to work with the other residents of Corktown, Hamilton to create a safe environment for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages. The first step is indentifying the problem spots. You can read about what we've heard so far from residents here.

We want the City of Hamilton to undertake a Complete Streets audit of Corktown, and adopt measures to slow traffic through the neighbourhood. While residents have been successful in getting the City to install some traffic calming measures, we believe that a systemic neighbourhood-wide response is required to address speed on both residential and arterial streets in our neighbourhood.

Complete Streets is an approach to street design that makes streets safer for all users, of all ages and abilities. The City of Hamilton is currently developing its own version with the Complete Liveable Better Streets Manual. It requires a shift away from the current model that prioritizes vehicles and integrates design features aimed at speed management.

Sign the Petition
We have drafted a letter that lays out our concerns about traffic in our neighbourhood. We will be sending this letter to Councillor Farr, the Public Works Committee, and the Traffic Division. The more signatures we have, the more likely it is that the City will respond to our request for a Complete Streets Audit.
Contact Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr or any other members of the Public Works Committee to let them know that you support the call for a Complete Streets audit of Corktown.
Promote the Petition
The more people who sign the letter, the better. Share this website with your neighbours or others who have an interest in a safer Corktown. Encourage them to sign the letter.
