Focus

Our understanding of earthquakes has changed significantly in recent years. We now observe various slow-deformation phenomena in addition to ordinary fast earthquakes, and this highlights the need to reconstruct earthquake science based our growing understanding of various interacting deformation processes. Deep interdisciplinary research across scientific disciplines such as geophysics, geology, and physics, as well as expanding our frontier into engineering and information science, are therefore critical to fully conceptualize these complex intricacies of earthquake science. The Science of Slow-to-Fast Earthquakes projects will hold “International Joint Workshop on Slow-to-Fast Earthquakes 2023” to promote a more integrated approach in earthquake research that encompasses the slow-to-fast earthquake spectrum. We will hold three plenary sessions on selected topics during the workshop, together with general oral and poster sessions, to share research results, deepen our understanding of slow-to-fast earthquake processes, and explore new research directions among the participants.

Keynote speakers: Ross Stein  (Temblor, Inc.),  Anne Socquet (Université Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, IRD, ISTerre)

Keynote speakers: Michael Strasser (University of Innsbruck),  Atsushi Okamoto (Tohoku University)

Keynote speakers: Kate Huihsuan Chen (National Taiwan Normal University), Saeko Kita (Building Research Institute)
