Miscellaneous Projects

Art sometimes dictates the medium. Paraphrasing from Claes Oldenburg, art can take its lines from life itself. Or life can become the lines of our art. I never know what medium an idea will cause me to be using to make something and I love learning about new processes, crafts and materials. Here is a collection of non glass art that I have made in the course of this journey.

My brother and I began ideas for this stone structure while thinking about the stone quarry that is located on the grounds of the Upstate Shaolin Temple. We had the desire to make a wall that housed a moongate opening that laid right at the start of a pathway leading into a wooded section of the property. After quite a bit of research into how to proceed with this project we worked out some sketches and did a bit of math. We created the wooden structure that the stones would be supported by while we worked began harvesting stone from the quarry for our purpose. In these pictures you can see us somewhere at the middle of the laying of the stone walls that buttress the arch of the gateway. Stay tuned for some shots of the completed moongate!

After taking a course in Jewelry design I crafted these pieces from silver giving them a patina to enhance the patterns.

There are access holes cut into many roadways and sidewalks to allow for access to electric and water for repair and maintenance. After working with metal casting in a metal foundry for a few months I developed some designs for replacing these and giving people a little something to think about as they were going about their day. We can place art into the cracks of our everyday experience whenever possible. Creating an experience or altering an experience while going on about our day to day living. In hindsight I probably should have asked for permission... But I was able to snap some photo evidence of the work.
