TRAVEL
You can travel to Birmingham by train from many parts of the UK. Connections from London leave from London Euston or London Marylebone railway stations. From London Euston, you can travel by Avanti West Coast trains (more comfortable and the shortest train travel time, but also the most expensive and sometimes crowded - make sure you get a seat reservation) or London Northwestern trains (less comfortable, much slower, but the least expensive). The Chiltern Railway trains from London Marylebone are not as fast as the Avanti trains, but are usually comfortable and often less crowded.
If you fly into a London airport, you will need to take a overground or underground train to London Euston or London Marylebone railway stations. Your train travel to Birmingham will be between 85 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on which of the train companies you opt to travel with, but do not forget to factor in your travel across London.
You can also travel to Birmingham by train from most other major cities in the United Kingdom too, although the train company options are usually more limited than from London. You can also travel to Birmingham by coach - to find the cheapest bus fares, you can use the Check My Bus website.
Many international flights fly direct to Birmingham International Airport, or may connect to other flights that fly into Birmingham. Once at the airport, trains will take you from Birmingham International Railway Station (connected to the airport by a shuttle service) to Birmingham New Street station in the city centre. From Birmingham New Street, you can take a train to University station near the campus. Alternatively, you can take a taxi which will usually get you to the University of Birmingham campus in 30 minutes or so.
ACCOMMODATION
The recommended hotel for the 'Sign Language Contact, Variation, and Change (SLCVC)' conference is the Edgbaston Park Hotel, which is part of the campus at the University of Birmingham. It is just a short walk to the SLCVC conference venue - the Alan Walters Building - on the University of Birmingham campus.
Alternatively, you might like to stay in Birmingham city centre. You can find plenty of information about Birmingham hotels on the TripAdvisor website. We recommend hotels close to Birmingham New Street Station, as it is a short train ride to University station which takes you right to the University of Birmingham campus. It's only a short walk from the station to the conference venue on campus.
