Note from the Author.
The Epic of Ryn was my 20-year project and first series published. Started in 2000-2001, the book was inspired by my early research into ancient Near East literature, with works like the Book of Enoch, and the Sumerian Text Corpus having special influence on me. Back in 2001, almost no one was talking about the Nephilim or Watchers. Today, you can find a million YouTube videos on the subject and a vibrant community of enthusiasts. I would like to think I was deeply into it before it was "cool." (Said with humor and self-deprecation).
I finally published it in 2021, after many rejections, failures, and extensive edits. I updated it again in 2023 with new art and some story additions. This story was my OG fantasy. It is also my closest to a classical fantasy, seeing as it is inspired by many of the same source texts that inspired Tolkien, Lewis, and the like.
Synopsis
Crova's last king, Ryn, a man of learning and depth, an arvaita, who was forced to become a king of war, is imprisoned in the underworld. His queen captive, his people all but annihilated and scattered, he questions everything. But in the darkest moment, he is called out by the Source. An arvaita works in many elements, and Ryn is called to do something the world does not know, to take this mission and share it with those, not of his kind.
Ryn is to gather allies, bring old foes together, and stand against this tide of oppression before it wipes the righteous from the earth. What he does not know is that who he is, broken and defeated, is exactly what the Source intends to use to rescue humanity from one of its first curses brought about by the very existence of the Nephilim.
With Crova and Nova defeated, the order of blood born and blood spilled seemed to triumph forever. But what is coming will begin to change the understanding of all creatures, both human, star, and nephilim alike.
The Purpose of Fantasy (feat. Epic of Ryn)
Fantasy was meant for a purpose. Not just to entertain, but to grow the imagination. To put yourself in times and places you might not ever be, so that when the moment arises when you need it, you might have the experience, courage, and knowledge you wish to have.
