Ekto Numa
The War for Libero's Soul
The War for Libero's Soul
Synopsis
"Knowledge, like power, makes lofty promises. But most don't understand it at all. Like fruit, we can eat the bad, as well as the good, and somehow expect pure things from tainted fruit."
- The Prophet
In a decaying Empire that discards its veterans, unceremoniously discharged soldier Javin returns to his frontier home, but with a scarred heart no longer fit for village life.
When a rogue Special Forces operative washes ashore, Javin is pulled into a clandestine revolution against the iron rule of the Emperor.
Recruited into a talented but mismatched crew, the leaders of the revolution task them with the impossible: destroying the seven Ammud Numa - the sacred pillars that channel the Emperor's divine essence, making rebellion impossible. Can they survive the call, or in a group created by chance, will forces inside and out get them first?
The Project
I started writing Ekto Numa in 2015, and oddly enough, it started as an RPG (Role Playing Game). At some point in programming it, I decided I could do more with the story by turning it into a novel. For that reason, the first 3 books especially have a very classic RPG fantasy feel, moving like the classic RPG video games I grew up on or a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. In book 4, its flow gets a bit more diverse, with more subplots being introduced, building intrigue, and beginning the process of pulling many symbols and character arcs together into a fantastic collage of stories that make for one epic tale.
Although it is already written, it is not published, and it is not finished. This 11-year project has been shelved long enough, though. It explores many relevant dilemmas of our modern world, one that is increasingly chaotic and seems beyond repair. Inside is a grand exploration of how we truly do the right thing, how we get diverse people to work together, and how we establish authority.
I am looking forward to sharing it, and hope it means as much to you as it has meant to me. The story has transformed me as I have written it, often changing me permanently, making me laugh, cry, and calling me to arms in a world that is tearing itself apart.
