Chak-Chak
Chak-Chak
I picked these three snacks up at Behetle, in Kazan. A Russian student in Samara gave me a list of snacks that I HAD to buy in Tatarstan at one specific grocery store. The list had Russian, Tatar, and English for me to consult. Chak-Chak is something like the Tatar national dessert and she told me that I couldn't leave without it. It's pictured to the left. I don’t know if "dessert" is the right word, it’s the national thing-to-accompany-tea. I know this because once iI went shopping with a Bashkir friend and he said he didn’t even know it was possible to drink tea without eating Chak-chak. It reminds me of "Mah juy" which is a Chinese rice-based snack in that it's mostly dry.
