Semechah Lui - Assistant Professor

Semechah received her Ph.D. in Geophysics from the California Institute of Technology and B.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining UTM, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering at U of Toronto.

Hoi Leung Pun - Ph.D. candidate 

Hoi Leung has been part of our group since 2020 as an ROP student. He received his B.S. in the Earth Science at UTM in 2022 and stayed with us to continue his Ph.D. studies. He is interested in the triggering mechanisms of earthquakes, particularly foreshock-mainshock interactions.

Masooma Hasnain - Ph.D. student

Masooma received a B.S. in Geophysics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2024. Her research interests include characterizing the rupture and source properties and modeling ground motion of induced earthquakes.

Dana Adhis - Ph.D. student (co-supervised with Prof. Giovanni Grasselli)

Dana received her Bachelor’s degree in Astronomy with a double minor in Earth Sciences and Mathematics in June 2024 from UTM. Her master’s study focuses on understanding the behaviour and the underlying physics of earthquake swarms, which differ from the typical mainshock-aftershock sequences. 

Imanuel Arie Sirupa - Undergraduate research assistant

Imanuel is a third-year undergraduate majoring in physics. He is the recipient of the University of Toronto Excellence Award (UTEA) in summer 2025. His project focuses on analyzing the spatiotemporal pattern of wastewater disposal and hydraulic fracking well data in Western Canada Sedimentary Basin and their relationship with regional seismicity.
