Work-based learning is essentially hands-on experience. We strongly believe that book knowledge is not enough to meet the needs of the ever-changing job landscape. SkillUpOHVA has made it our mission to give all of our students the chance to put what they've learned into practice by helping them acquire an internship, job-shadow, or some form of apprenticeship by the end of their high school career. Stay tuned to find out more!
Tallo is one of our major partnerships that we cannot brag enough about! Think LinkedIn, but specifically designed for students to help them network and acquire internships as early as high school. Through the intuitive interface, all you need to do is fill out the prompts on your Tallo profile , much like you would on a social media platform, and then apply to internships/jobs in the Opportunities tab. SkillUpOHVA has even sought out to partner with local businesses to provide job opportunites designed specifically for our students. We are barely scratching the surface about all the benefits of having a Tallo profile, so if you want to find out more about Tallo, click the Tallo icon to the right.
Don't be afraid to also follow our newsletter as we will be sending out more internship and job opportunities that we feel meet the needs of our students. If you still can't find an internship that interests you, don't sweat it. You can meet with some of our CRE advisors and coordinators to help find you a job that fits into your busy schedule. In fact, we believe that any job experience should count toward your work-based learning. Whether you work on your family's farm or you are a barista at Starbucks, we view that work as valuable and we will, therefore, count that as your work-based learning requirement.
