DRESS CODE
Students must be in official SkillsUSA dress for leadership competitions, EXCEPT, they do not have to wear the red jackets (see next bullet list). This is because some schools may enter 3 teams in OCC (and that contest is a team of 7 students). Many schools who do that will not have enough jackets to go around.
OCC contest MUST wear the red jackets.
Absolutely NO competitor is allowed to wear clothing that identifies their school. If a student does so, they will be removed from the contest. If a contest official removes the student and a replacement clothing item is provided, the student will be allowed to return to the contest with a clothing penalty deduction. Any loss of time for the competition cannot be made up.
Competitors are required to bring all PPE for their competition.
Officers/Ambassadors will serve as a second set of eyes for the clothing checkpoint at registration to help catch any violations before a student is released to enter their competition area.
TARDY/LATE TO COMPETITION
Students who arrive late to the competition (unless deemed a circumstance beyond their control) are not allowed to make up any of the competition that they missed during that time they were tardy. Extended time is also not granted to the student. For instance, if a student is late 15 minutes, that student will not be allowed to compete an additional 15 minutes at the end of the contest.
CONTEST ETIQUETTE
Advisors must remain out of the competition areas during the competition. The only advisor in the contest area should be the coordinator of the competition.
If a student competitor needs to use the restroom, they will be escorted by a contest official or ambassador. Students being escorted are not allowed to speak to anyone outside of the competition area because they are still considered to be in-contest while taking the restroom break.
Competitors will surrender their cell phones at the beginning of the competition by placing them in a designated spot in the competition area. If a competitor is caught with their cell phone during the competition, they will be disqualified. Cell phones can be picked up when they exit the competition.
RESUMES
Resumes are NOT required for district level contests. (See next bullet listing.)
A resume IS REQUIRED for the job interview contest.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
If the host school is closed due to inclement weather, the contest moves to the snow day.
If two or more tech schools are closed due to inclement weather, the contest moves to the snow day. (See next bullet listing.) We will make the determination on a forecast two days prior to competition to allow ample time to reschedule.
This policy does NOT include area schools that attend each tech school. This policy applies to the tech schools. For instance, Pleasant Hope and Skyline both attend Dallas County. If Pleasant Hope and Skyline are closed for snow but Dallas County Technical Center is still in session, then this policy does not apply. It would only apply if Dallas County was not in session along with another tech school.
SkillsUSA Missouri policy states that if one tech school in the district cannot attend due to inclement weather and is closed that day, each contest they are registered for is allowed one slot at state competition. Therefore if one tech school is closed but the district competition still happens, that tech school is allowed to register one competitor for each contest they were registered for at the district level.
We follow SkillsUSA Missouri's grievance policy. It states:
If a contestant feels that a rule violation occurred during the contest, the contestant may file a grievance. The grievance form may be obtained from the head contest judge and must be returned to same. The head judge must accept the grievance and must make a ruling on the grievance.
If the head judge cannot rectify the grievance to the satisfaction of the contestant, then and only then may the contestant ask that the grievance be presented to the official grievance committee for consideration. In this case, please contact the District Coordinator in Headquarters. The committee of five will consist of the District Coordinator, Head Judge, Contest Coordinator, and two additional advisors not related to the situation and not from the same school.
All grievances must start with the head judge of each contest while the contest is in progress.
Time missed while making a grievance report to the judge will be given to the contestant to complete his/her contest without penalty.
No grievances will be filed after the contests are concluded.
A copy of the State Grievance (that we will use) is below.
